Current president, José Larrazabal.
The idea for the Australian Federation of Basque Handball stems from a conversation between José Larrazabal and Jose Maria Gorrostiaga in Laudio (Araba, Euskadi). Gorrostiaga, with the assistance of Kepa Arroitajauregi (coach and technical director of the Federation), then prepared an initial meeting with the Federation of Basque Handball held in the Kultur-Etxea Areta (Laudio, Araba, Euskadi).
Back in Townsville (Queensland, Australia) in 2006 a board was defined and they eventually founded the federation. Its main objectives were to promote handball in Australia, actively participate in championships and, in particular, devote their efforts to the goal of building a new fronton.
On 14 December 2006 the World Council of Basque Handball and associates was formed. The Australian Federation along with associated federations from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Euskadi, USA, Philippines, Ireland, Dominican Republic and Venezuela was a founding member.
